Sometimes liberals just want to hate on President Donald Trump.
It’s a function of their Trump Derangement Syndrome.
Take the case of his new Surgeon General appointment, Rear Admiral Sylvia Trent-Adams.
Now she should have checked all the boxes one would supposedly would want to make a liberal happy. Female, black, woman.
Conservatives would look at her accomplishments: Ph.D, rear admiral, deputy surgeon general, nurse officer in the Army.
But one box checked of course destroyed all the rest for liberals: Trump appointee.
If she’s a Trump appointee, even a fill-in acting one, then she must be bad, that vitiates all those other checked boxes. So no recognition of appointing a woman of color, time to diss.
Trump asked Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy, an Obama holdover, to step down. In his place, the president promoted Deputy Surgeon General Sylvia Trent-Adams as acting surgeon general.
Instead of applauding President Trump for elevating a black, female nurse to the post, leftists attacked Dr. Trent-Adams’ credentials, saying she’s “just a nurse.” Obviously, Trump’s promotion of a black woman doesn’t fit the liberal media narrative that he’s a “racist misogynist.”
ABC and the NY Times both subtly derided her.
NY Times headline was “Nurse Replaces Surgeon General After Obama Appointee Resigns.”
As Biz Pac Review notes, NY Times doesn’t mention her full qualifications until the final paragraph of their story, that Sylvia Trent-Adams has a Ph.D., was a nurse officer in the Army and the deputy surgeon general.
ABC has the headline “Dr. Vivek Murthy — an Obama appointee — resigns as Surgeon General, replaced by deputy Sylvia Trent-Adams, a nurse,”

@ABC But the word “Surgeon” is in the title. Doesn’t that mean something? Or am I being too literal-minded?

Although Sylvia Trent-Adams is very accomplished, the title of @Surgeon_General indicates physician.

Apparently she was good enough to be unquestioned as Deputy Surgeon General under former President Obama, but not enough to take the top job if Trump appoints her. The position is a policy position, not a position requiring a literal ‘surgeon’ despite the title. Doubtless there are doctors who have held the position before who have not been surgeons.
Now, she may not ultimately turn out to be the permanent appointee, as she is just the acting now. But at least people should give her a chance in the job and recognize what an achievement it is after a lifetime of service.
Congratulations, Acting Surgeon General Sylvia Trent-Adams!
